"Cheap Thrills and The Grand Budapest Hotel" is the ninth episode of the fourth season of film review web series Half in the Bag, and 68th episode in the series overall. The episode aired March 29, 2014.[1][2]

In this episode, after extensive planning, Mike and Jay put their Weekend at Bernie's plan into motion and discuss two 2014 releases, Cheap Thrills and The Grand Budapest Hotel.

Plot[]

In an attempt to claim Mr. Plinkett’s settlement, Mike and Jay put their Weekend at Bernie’s plan into action, but the scheme immediately unravels. Horrified by the appalling lack of respect for the dead, Mr. Plinkett’s lawyer leaves to call the police. As the duo wait to get arrested, they discuss Cheap Thrills and The Grand Budapest Hotel.

When the lawyer returns, Mike and Jay try to explain themselves. Mr. Plinkett suddenly reappears, alive and well. Plinkett explains that his twin brother Barry had kidnapped him and assumed his identity in order to claim the settlement from the City of Milwaukee. However, Barry died before his plan could come to fruition.

The duo’s plan to claim part of the settlement is also thwarted. Despite its squalor, the house bears great sentimental value to Plinkett. Giving an impassioned speech, Plinkett forgoes the cash settlement and instead has the city relocate and rebuild his house from the debris. With the matter resolved, Mike, Jay, and Plinkett struggle to remove Barry’s skeleton from the lawyer’s office.

Summary and Review[]

Cheap Thrills is a new comedy starring Pat Healy, Ethan Embry, and David Koechner. The IMDB plot keywords for this film include money, bar, poop, dog killed, human excrement, defecating, vomit, cocaine, murder, sex scene, and eating one’s finger. This essentially sums up the entire film with barely any other substance.
—Mike Stoklasa
The Grand Budapest Hotel is the latest film from acclaimed filmmaker Wes Anderson. It stars Ralph Fiennes and pretty much everyone else you’ve ever seen in a Wes Anderson movie. […]

The Grand Budapest Hotel or #GBH on Twitter is about the adventures and exploits of concierge Gustaf H, played by Fiennes, and a wacky, murder-mystery caper. Anderson succeeds in finding that last genre on earth to hipsterize: the obscure works of German author Stefan Zweig.
